Eseroma Matebalavu

Founder & Managing Director

Ese has over 20 years in the financial sector in the City of London. He has held roles at several large global investment banks, primarily managing global independent valuations teams. He has experience covering Commodity, Equity and Fixed Income markets across a wide range of complex product classes. A key area of his expertise is the independent valuation and regulation of emissions trading and energy markets.

Spurred by a long-held interest in sustainable and equitable development gained in his native Fiji, Ese embarked on a mid-career switch completing a Master’s in development focussing on the topic of energy transition in the Pacific context.

He has brought together a capable team of professionals to establish a boutique consultancy with the goal of delivering development solutions in the Pacific that are transformative, equitable and sensitive to local needs.

Anju Sanehi

Principal Consultant

Qualifications:

  • BA Hons Law & Classics (UK)

Anju commenced her career as a lawyer in the City of London at Linklaters and then Ashursts. She was appointed as a partner at DLA, where she combined a successful natural resources and regulatory law practice with management roles. Anju’s private practice career focused on natural resource, climate change regulation and policy development, advice on renewable energy and sustainable development.

Anju is now a director of Limen Limited, an environmental development consultancy advising on renewable energy, strategic and policy matters. Over the last few years, Anju, part of the original developing team for the world’s largest biomass plant working from development stage (which being included in the first tranche of contracts for difference, a UK government scheme for supporting low-carbon electricity generation) to project finance up to commissioning stage.

Anju has acted as adviser in developing and funding renewable energy projects in sub-Sahara Africa; advising on setting up a Hub to provide “leaning by doing” in-country technical training and the promotion of employment opportunities in sustainable environment careers; strategic analysis of the benefits of setting up a private equity fund to invest in a portfolio of renewable energy projects and advice on funding from various European Development Finance Institutions; advising on handovers of development agency and World Bank CDM projects to an African governmental entity.

Anju has managed multi-disciplinary and often, multi-jurisdictional teams both in her professional life and on a voluntary basis. In respect of the latter she was appointed as Independent Person to sit with the Standards Committee at the City of London Corporation and also as Lay Member of the research ethics committee of the University of London.

Christine Lancaster

Principal Consultant

Qualifications:

Christine has spent many years working as a climate change consultant. She is currently advising the South East London Integrated Care Board on their green plan for primary care with one of the projects focussing on retrofitting GP practices with net zero energy solutions. One of the highlights was that she created the Smart Island Economies: the 10 island renewable challenge for Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room for which she raised 3 Million euros and then launched the project at Rio 20+.  She coordinated the team of consultants that developed the system  for implementing renewable energy projects in the Caribbean.  In 2012, she was a legal adviser in the technical team for COP 18/CMP8 held in Qatar.

Christine qualified as a solicitor in both New South Wales and the UK and worked as an environmental lawyer with a specialism in climate change and provided advice to clients on the UK and EU emissions trading schemes, Joint Implementation projects in Russia, forestry legislation in Tasmania and general strategic advice on the international climate change regime.

Christine has a Masters in law with a focus on international climate change law. She also lived in Fiji for 10 years and is a Fiji and UK citizen.

Carl Probert

Principal Consultant

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Science and Policy (UNSW Sydney)
  • MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management (UNSW Sydney)

Carl Probert has a comprehensive understanding of the Pacific region, derived from over 15 years of direct involvement in Pacific logistics, project management and asset management. He began his career as a Management Trainee at Sea-Tow Limited in New Zealand, eventually advancing to own and operate a barge company in Fiji from 2008 to 2014. Early in his career, he worked at Origin Energy's Port Botany Offices and LPG Terminal in Sydney, which provided him crucial industry experience.

He was General Manager of Logistics and Assets at Pacific Building Solution where he led several projects and introduced efficiency-boosting asset consolidation measures. Alongside this, he partnered in a biofuel venture which established five biofuel mills for the Fiji Government.

Currently, he owns a consulting firm that offers project management services in the civil and construction sectors. For the past five years, he has been the Project Manager for Coca Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) projects in Fiji and, for the last 18 months, he has worked as a local Project Manager for PDS Deloittes Australia.

Carl has participated in five Olympic Games from 1992 to 2008 and has founded two NGOs focused on environmental sustainability and still holds executive committee positions in the World Olympians Association and the Oceania Surfing Federation. Carl holds a Bachelor of Social Science and Policy degree, with a major in Economics and a Master’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Bruce Clay

Principal Consultant

Qualifications:

  • B Eng (Sydney University)

After completing his Bachelor of Engineering at Sydney University Bruce spent eight years in professional yacht racing, four as sail designer for North Sails, before moving to Fiji to establish Pacific Green Furniture.

Bruce has over 30 years of Pacific Islands professional experience in the application of sustainable energy and manufacturing co-founding the public listed company Pacific Green Furniture in 1991 and founding the region’s leading renewable energy EPC company, Clay Energy, in 1998. He has been involved in resource assessment, power sector feasibility studies, energy efficiency auditing, business management and development and delivery of many of the region’s most innovative renewable energy projects.

Bruce serves on the executive committee of the Sustainable Energy Industry Association of the Pacific Islands and the Sustainable Sea Transport Initiative. Through his associations, consulting, and corporate management he has experience dealing with private and public stakeholders throughout the regions energy sector.
